God Bless Our HOME!

God Bless Our HOME – Happy Earth Day 2012!

Treat the Earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
It was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
We borrow it from our Children.

~ Native American saying

In the spirit of Earth Day, I would like to invite you to take a few simple actions that will make you feel good about yourself, save you money, and at the same time benefit your health and the Earth. Remember, small changes can make a huge difference.

1. Buy only good quality stuff and avoid the cheap ones.  This will save you money on the long run as they last longer. Cheap stuff don’t last long, which leads to wasting your money and natural resources and will add to the pollution. To understand the full scope of this issue, I invite you to watch the movie “The Story of Stuff“, by Annie Leonard

2. Reduce your shower time and turn off the water. By reducing your shower time by just a few minute, you will conserve gallons of water per month, and you will save money, and more importantly, you will reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals, such as chloride and fluoride, which are added to water and your body absorbs through your skin. You can also save water by turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth, and when you shave! To understand the scope of the challenge we face regarding fresh water, I highly recommend that you watch the movie “FLOW: For Love Of Water”

3. Reduce your consumption of meat. As you will see in the movie Home, big farmers cut forests to raise cows in crowded farms; feed them with grains, which is not their natural diet, to produce more meat fast.  This has several bad effects on the health of the cows, and therefore, on the people who consume the meet, as well as on the environment. Make sure that the meet you buy comes from a farm where the animals were fed their natural diet, had the freedom to move around, and were well-treated.

If the video below doesn’t work, you can watch it on YouTube at this link:

The Forest lights up our life.
We are dependant on its bounty
for our health, happiness and progress.
Deprived of it, we suffer.
Deprived of it, we are in the dark.
Let us keep the light burning.
Let us keep our forest green – it is life itself, our life.
~ Ancient Indian metaphor

I wish you a Happy Green Earth Day, Everyday!
